Hadith 755

(وَمِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى نَعْلَيْهِ
(Second chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Aws bin Abu Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and wiped over his shoes.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … There are only two situations in which wiping over shoes is permissible: one is that socks (muwazz) or stockings are also worn along with the shoes, or the second is that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was already in a state of ablution (wudu) and was performing this ablution in which wiping over the feet is done, as this issue has already been clarified a few chapters earlier.
