Qais bin Hubtar says: I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about white, green, and red pitchers. He said: The first to ask about this were the delegation of Abdul Qais who asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): We obtain flour or sattu, etc., so in which skins should we prepare nabidh? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not use a vessel carved from pumpkin, a vessel coated with tar, a vessel carved from date-palm trunk, or a pitcher for preparing drinks; rather, drink nabidh prepared in skins. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has forbidden wine, gambling, and drum-beating, and every intoxicating thing is forbidden. Sufyan says: I asked Ali bin Badhimah, what is drum-beating? He said: Beating the dholak (drum).
