Hadith 751

Abd Khair says: I saw Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) wiping over the upper part of the foot and he said: If I had not seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over the outer part of the foot, I would have thought that the underside of the foot was more deserving of being wiped.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In other chains of transmission of this hadith, the wiping (masah) over the leather socks (khuffayn) is mentioned; therefore, in this hadith, we have interpreted the word "washing" (ghusl) to mean "wiping" (masah). The method of this wiping is that one should wet the hand and pass it over the upper outer part of the foot.
