Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to Yemen. I said: O Messenger of Allah! There are some (specific) drinks found there, which of them may I drink and which should I avoid? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Which (drinks) are those? I said: They are Bit’ and Mizr. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not recognize what they were, so he asked: What is Bit’ and Mizr? I said: Bit’ is a beverage made from corn, it is cooked until it becomes Bit’, and the beverage made from honey is called Mizr. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then, do not drink any intoxicating beverage.
