عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَشْرَبُوا إِلَّا فِيمَا أُوكِيَ عَلَيْهِ
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Drink only from those water skins whose mouths have been tied.

Benefits: … In these ahadith, there is special instruction regarding covering vessels. There are many benefits to this. One is that it provides protection from Shaytan, because Shaytan does not open a covered vessel. The second is that in this way, one is protected from epidemics. The third benefit is that it provides protection from impurity and filth. The fourth benefit is that it provides protection from insects and vermin; sometimes a poisonous thing may fall into the water, which then affects the water.
