Hadith 7438

عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ مَنَعَ فَضْلَ مَاءِهِ أَوْ فَضْلَ كَلَئِهِ مَنَعَهُ اللَّهُ فَضْلَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Whoever withholds surplus water and surplus grass, Allah Almighty will withhold His grace from him on the Day of Resurrection.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In the pure Shari‘ah, collective benefit is given precedence, not the benefit of an individual. This very principle has been stated in this hadith. Water and grass are such gifts from Allah Ta‘ala that no one’s personal ability plays any role in acquiring them. Therefore, all people have the right to use them.
