Hadith 7434

عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ أُمَّهُ مَاتَتْ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي مَاتَتْ فَأَتَصَدَّقُ عَنْهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَأَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ سَقْيُ الْمَاءِ قَالَ فَتِلْكَ سِقَايَةُ آلِ سَعْدٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: My mother passed away and I said: O Messenger of Allah! My mother has passed away, can I give charity on her behalf? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, absolutely. I said: Which charity is the best? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Providing water is the best charity. So he had a well dug, which became famous in Madinah by the name of the family of Sa’d.
