Khalid bin Ma'dan narrates that Abdul A'la bin Hilal prepared a meal, and we were present there. When we finished eating, Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: I am standing at this place, I am neither a preacher nor do I wish to deliver a sermon, but I want to narrate a hadith. I heard from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that after finishing the food, or after being done with it, or after the dining cloth is removed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite this supplication: "Alhamdulillahi kathiran tayyiban mubarakan fihi ghayra makfiyyin wa la muwadda'in wa la mustaghna anhu" (All praise is due to Allah, abundant, pure, and blessed praise; it is not sufficient without Him, nor can it be left, nor can anyone do without Him). Sayyiduna Abu Umamah kept repeating this supplication until we memorized it.
