'Amr bin Dinar says: I said to Abu Sha'tha that people say the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade eating the meat of domestic donkeys. He said: O 'Amr! The ocean of knowledge, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, rejects this, and he recited this verse: {قُلْلَاأَجِدُفِیمَاأُوحِیَإِلَیَّمُحَرَّمًاعَلٰیطَاعِمٍیَطْعَمُہُ} … Say, "I do not find in what has been revealed to me anything forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it, unless it be carrion, or blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine." The ocean of knowledge has rejected that donkey meat is forbidden, and this is also supported by Hakam bin 'Amr Ghifari, that the son of Abbas, the ocean of knowledge, did not declare donkey meat forbidden.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Whatever thing is not proven to be unlawful (haram) by any evidence, in the light of the verse mentioned in this hadith, it will be considered lawful (halal). Since in many ahadith the donkey has been declared unlawful (haram), therefore the donkey is haram.
