Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Hasnah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we were on a journey with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We stopped in a region where there were many lizards (dabb lizards). We caught them, slaughtered them, and began to cook them. Our pots were boiling when suddenly the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived and said: "A nation from the Children of Israel was lost." In another narration, it is stated: "They were transformed." "I fear that perhaps that nation is these very lizards, therefore, overturn the pots." So we overturned the pots, even though we were suffering from severe hunger.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Ḍabb (sand lizard) is an animal resembling a wild rat, but it is larger than it. Its female is called Ḍabbah. In our region, it is generally translated as "goh" (monitor lizard), but all the characteristics described for the Ḍabb are found entirely in the sand lizard (sanda). Therefore, the correct view is that what is meant here is the sand lizard (sanda), not the monitor lizard (goh), and Allah knows best.
