It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) informed him that he entered with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Maymunah bint Harith (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the maternal aunt of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). Sayyida presented to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) roasted lizard meat, which Sayyida Umm Hafeed bint Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) had brought from Najd. She was the wife of a man from Banu Ja’far. Whatever the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to eat, he would first inquire about it. (When the lizard meat was presented before him,) one of the wives said: Inform him (peace and blessings be upon him) that this is lizard meat. Upon hearing this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) left it. Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Is this forbidden? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: No, it is not forbidden, but it is a food that is not found among my people, and I feel aversion to it. Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I pulled the meat towards myself and began to eat, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was watching. Ibn Shihab says: Asam narrated to me, and he narrated from Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her); he was raised by Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her).
