It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I saw Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) in Iraq that when he performed ablution, he would wipe over his leather socks. I objected to this action of his. Then it happened that when we gathered in the presence of Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he said to me: Regarding your objection to wiping over the leather socks, ask your father about it. So I mentioned this matter to my father, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he replied: When Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) tells you something, do not reject it, because indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wipe over the leather socks.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This incident also proves that if a Companion (sahabi) objects to a certain statement or action, it is not necessary that it was not established from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, because it is possible that the one objecting was not aware of that Sunnah. When Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu came to know of the blessed hadith, he began to act upon it, as is proven from the next hadith, and this is what befits a Muslim.
