Lady Salma bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the maternal aunt of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and who had prayed towards both Qiblahs with him, was a woman from Banu Adi bin Najjar. It is narrated from her, she says: I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and, joining the women of the Ansar, I pledged allegiance to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed these conditions upon us: that we would not associate anything with Allah, nor steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill our children, nor slander, and that we would not disobey the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in matters of goodness. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said to us that we should not act deceitfully towards our husbands. Thus, we pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on these matters. When we returned, I said to one of the women: Go back and ask the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) what is meant by not acting deceitfully towards husbands? When she went and asked, she returned and said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Deceit is when a woman takes her husband's wealth and gives it away as gifts to others.
