Wahb bin Jabir narrates that the son of a slave of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (may Allah be pleased with them) said to him: I intend to spend this month of Ramadan here in Bayt al-Maqdis. He said: Have you left provisions for your wife and children for this blessed month? He replied: No. He said: Then return to your family and arrange for their provisions, because I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that it is sufficient sin for a man that he neglects those whose provision is his responsibility.

Benefits: … In this blessed hadith, a very important point has been mentioned, especially for scholars, preachers, and those engaged in religious propagation. This is because, at times, a person becomes so involved in excess or negligence that he gives so much importance to one obligation that he becomes completely heedless of other obligations. Serving one’s wife, children, and parents is also an extremely important responsibility, just like other obligations and duties.
