It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: My maternal aunt was divorced, and she was still in her waiting period (‘iddah), but she wished to go and pick dates from her trees. A man forbade her from doing so and said that she should not go out. So she came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why not, you may pick your dates; perhaps you may give charity from it or perform some act of goodness.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this hadith it is understood that if a woman has no one else to do her work, then she may go outside during her waiting period (‘iddah), especially when it is for a virtuous act or for giving charity and alms, then it is even better, provided there is a necessity. As much as possible, permission to go outside should not be given.
