It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you go to your bed, perform ablution, lie on your right side, and recite this supplication: “O Allah, I have submitted my face to You…” .

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The complete hadith with the full supplication is as follows: The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: When you are about to sleep, perform ablution (wudu), lie down on your right side, and recite this supplication. If you die that night, you will die upon the natural disposition (the religion of Islam), and if you remain alive, you will attain goodness and virtue (because of this supplication):
(O Allah! I have submitted my soul to You, I have entrusted my affair to You, I have turned my face towards You, I have leaned my back upon You, out of desire for You and fear of You. There is no refuge and no escape from You except to You. I have believed in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.)
This supplication is to be recited at the very end (before sleeping). (Bukhari, Muslim)
It is narrated from Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((Whoever spends the night in a state of purity (i.e., after performing ablution), an angel spends the night in his undergarment. Whenever he wakes up during any hour of the night, the angel says: O Allah! Forgive Your servant so-and-so, for he spent the night in a state of purity.)) (Ibn Hibban: 167, Sahihah: 2539)
These are the blessings of righteous deeds: although after sleeping, the ablution does not remain, its good effects persist. Performing ablution before sleeping is a virtuous act.
