Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu that he asked the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam whether any one of us may sleep in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah). The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied: ((He may sleep, and perform ablution (wudu) if he wishes.)) … Yes, he may sleep, but if he wishes, he should perform ablution (wudu). (Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah: 1/106, Sahih Ibn Hibban: 4/15) From this hadith, it is established that performing ablution (wudu) before sleeping is recommended (mustahabb) for one in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah), and this is also the opinion of the majority of the scholars.
