عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ دَخَلَ مُجَزِّزٌ الْمُدْلِجِيُّ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرَأَى أُسَامَةَ وَزَيْدًا وَعَلَيْهِمَا قَطِيفَةٌ وَقَدْ غَطَّيَا رُؤُوسَهُمَا وَبَدَتْ أَقْدَامُهُمَا فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْأَقْدَامَ بَعْضُهَا مِنْ بَعْضٍ وَقَالَتْ مَرَّةً دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَسْرُورًا
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a physiognomist from the tribe of Mudlij came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). When he saw Sayyiduna Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) and his father Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) lying down in such a state that both of them had covered their heads with a single sheet, while their feet were outside the sheet, he immediately said: "Surely, these feet appear to belong to one another (i.e., father and son)." Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: After this incident, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and he was extremely happy.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The original incident is as follows: Sayyiduna Zayd radi Allahu anhu had a son, Sayyiduna Usamah radi Allahu anhu. Sayyiduna Zayd radi Allahu anhu was of a fair and radiant complexion, while Sayyiduna Usamah radi Allahu anhu was of a deep black complexion. Due to this difference in complexion, the Quraysh and others steeped in ignorance would cast aspersions on their lineage. This caused the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam great distress. When a tracker and expert in physiognomy (qiyafah shanas) said that these footprints indicate that they are father and son—and people used to place great trust in the words of such trackers—then, when the physiognomist declared them to be father and son, waves of happiness and joy radiated from every line of light on your (the Prophet’s) blessed face.
