Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Asim bin Adi: Keep this woman in your custody until she gives birth; if she gives birth to a child with curly hair and a black tongue, then he is the son of Sahma. When the child was born, Asim says that I took hold of him and the hair on his head was thick like that of a young goat, then I took hold of his jaw and it was red like a jujube, and when I looked at his tongue from the front, it was black like a date. I said, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has spoken the truth.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this, it is correctly deduced that li‘an is permissible even before childbirth, provided that the husband denies the child in the womb. It is not necessary that li‘an can only take place after the child is born; rather, it can also occur beforehand.
