It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Asid Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that when a woman from the tribe of Jun was presented to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he went to her and said: "Offer yourself to me (in marriage)." She replied: "Can a queen offer herself to an ordinary man?" Then she said: "I seek refuge with Allah from you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, you have sought refuge with the One from whom refuge is sought." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us and said: "Abu Asid! Dress this woman in two white linen garments and take her to her family."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The original incident is as follows: Nu’man bin Jun Kindi came to the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and said: Shall I arrange your marriage with Umaymah bint Nu’man bin Shurahil? The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sent Sayyiduna Abu Asid radi Allahu anhu as a representative for the marriage. He brought the woman. When the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam went to her, his acceptance of someone was itself the marriage, and for this reason, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had sent his representative. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam mentioned the matter of gifting (i.e., offering herself) as a gesture of kindness, otherwise, according to the Shari’ah, she had already become his wife. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave preference to her statement and sent her back.
