Narrated from Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married me, he stayed with me for three days and said: Surely, in this there is neither any insult to your family nor any deprivation of your right. If you wish, I can complete seven days, but then I will also stay seven days with each of my other wives. In another narration, it is stated: Because of you, there is honor and dignity for your family. One narrator said: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed with her until the evening and said: If you wish, I will spend seven days with you, but then I will also fix seven days for my other wives, and if you wish, I will divide (the time) for you. She said: No, rather, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), divide (the time) for me.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyida Umm Salamah radi Allahu anha was a widow, therefore her right was three days. If she had been given seven days, then the rest of the wives would also have to be given the same number of days. According to the narration of Sahih Muslim, Sayyida Umm Salamah radi Allahu anha preferred three days so that the return of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would be sooner; in the case of seven days, she would have had to wait a long time.
