Narrated from Sayyiduna Laqit bin Sabirah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have a wife who is very sharp-tongued and causes me distress." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Divorce her." He said, "I have a long companionship with her and I have children from her." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then keep her and continue to advise her towards goodness. If she has the ability to accept goodness, she will accept it. In any case, you should not beat your wife as a slave-girl is beaten."
