It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) went to Yemen or Syria and saw that the Christians prostrate to their leaders and priests. He thought in his heart that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is more deserving of such respect. Then when he returned, he said: O Messenger of Allah! I saw the Christians prostrating to their priests and leaders, and it occurred to me in my heart that you are more deserving of this respect. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I were to command anyone to prostrate to anyone other than Allah Almighty, I would have commanded a woman to prostrate to her husband. A wife cannot fulfill the rights of Allah Almighty until she fulfills the rights of her husband as they ought to be fulfilled. If the husband calls his wife for marital relations and she is sitting on a saddle (of a riding animal), she must respond to her husband's request.
