Hadith 7066

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married me in Shawwal and my wedding also took place in Shawwal. Tell me, then, which wife of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was more accepted and honored than me?

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The departure (rukhsati) of Sayyidah Aisha took place in the month of Shawwal. In consideration of this Sunnah, she would make an effort that women should also be sent off (for marriage) in the month of Shawwal. Her intention was not that there is any particular blessing for husband and wife in this month.

In the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), people used to consider the month of Shawwal as inauspicious due to the meaning of its name, and did not deem marriage or construction, etc., appropriate in it. However, this is merely superstition; it has no reality. The name of a month has no effect on its days. Islam is opposed to such superstitions and considers hindrance in daily affairs on their basis to be a sign of bad belief. Regrettably, nowadays Muslims have also begun to hold similar notions regarding the month of Muharram.
