عَنِ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لَمَّا خَطَبَ عَلِيٌّ فَاطِمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهُ لَا بُدَّ لِلْعُرْسِ مِنْ وَلِيمَةٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ عَلَيَّ كَبْشٌ وَقَالَ فُلَانٌ عَلَيَّ كَذَا وَكَذَا مِنْ ذُرَةٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a marriage proposal to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: After marriage, a wedding feast (walimah) is necessary. Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will give a sheep. Another said: I will give such and such amount of corn.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The noble Companions (Sahabah) were those who would hasten towards acts of righteousness and were helpers to one another in such matters, just as Allah the Exalted has said: {وَتَعَاوَنُوْا عَلَی الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوٰی} … “And cooperate with one another in righteousness and piety.” (Surah al-Ma’idah: 2)
