Hadith 7

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O Abu Hurairah! Do you know what is the right of people upon Allah and the right of Allah upon people?" I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The right of Allah upon His servants is that they worship Him and do not associate anything with Him, and if they do so, then their right upon Allah is that He does not punish them."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From these blessed ahadith, one should realize the virtue of adopting tawhid (monotheism) and avoiding shirk (polytheism), as well as the condemnation of adopting shirk and turning away from tawhid. The summary of all the verses and ahadith related to this subject is that forgiveness for a sin like shirk is impossible; the polytheist will be cast into Hell forever. As for the matter of the monotheist, if Allah Ta‘ala does not forgive his sins, then he will be punished accordingly, and then he will be admitted into Paradise. In any case, in those ahadith in which the virtue of tawhid is mentioned, the monotheist should, while having good expectations of Allah Ta‘ala, consider himself among their recipients. However, this good expectation does not mean that a person should stop performing good deeds or abandon refraining from evil deeds. See hadith numbers (5, 6), according to which the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam forbade narrating such ahadith of virtue altogether, which might cause the general people to develop a tendency to abandon action.
