Hadith 6937

Narrated by Sayyiduna Suhaib bin Sinan (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever sets a dowry for a woman and Allah Almighty knows that he does not intend to pay it, thus he deceives the woman in the name of Allah and makes her private parts lawful for himself in an unlawful way, this man, on the day he meets Allah Almighty, will be counted among the thieves.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Imam al-Albani has declared the hadith of Ibn Majah to be authentic, but its wording is as follows: The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((Any man who takes a loan while being resolved not to repay it, will meet Allah as a thief.)) … "Whoever takes a loan, while his intention is not to repay it, will meet Allah the Exalted as a thief."

A marriage without a mahr (dower) is invalid; a person who intends not to pay it will be in great loss.
