Hadith 6929

عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْتَقَ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ حُيَيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا وَجَعَلَ عِتْقَهَا صَدَاقَهَا
Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) freed Sayyida Safiyyah bint Huyayy and made her freedom itself her dowry.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This incident took place in Ramadan of the 7th year Hijri. She came as a captive in the Battle of Banu Mustaliq. She was the daughter of Huyayy, the Jew. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) freed her from slavery and, considering this emancipation as her dowry (mahr), married her. In this way, Sayyidah Safiyyah became Umm al-Mu’minin (Mother of the Believers).
