عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ تَزَوَّجَ عَلَى وَزْنِ نَوَاةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ قَالَ فَكَانَ الْحَكَمُ يَأْخُذُ بِهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) got married for the amount of gold equal to the weight of a date stone, and he used to consider this as the ruling.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … According to the well-known opinion and the view of most scholars, "nawaat" refers to that gold coin whose value was five dirhams of silver. This view is supported by the wording of the narration in Sunan al-Bayhaqi: "the weight of a nawaat of gold, valued at five dirhams." … In exchange for gold equal in weight to a nawaat, whose value was five dirhams.
