Hadith 6915

عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ أَحَقَّ الشُّرُوطِ أَنْ يُوفَى بِهِ مَا اسْتَحْلَلْتُمْ بِهِ الْفُرُوجَ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The conditions which deserve to be fulfilled the most are those by which you make private parts lawful (i.e., marriage contracts).
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Qadi Iyad said: By this condition is meant the dower (mahr), because it is through this that the private parts are made lawful. There is no need to stipulate the condition of maintenance (nafaqah) and residence, but the Shari‘ah has made the husband responsible for these matters.
