Abdullah Yashkari, may Allah have mercy on him, says: I went to Kufa to bring a mule. When I reached the market, I saw that it was still closed. I said to my companion, "If we go to the mosque (it would be better)," while the mosque was situated among the date sellers. We saw that there was a man from the Qais tribe in the mosque; people used to call him Ibn Muntafiq. He was narrating: "A man described to me the attributes of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, so I searched for him in Mina, but someone told me that he, peace and blessings be upon him, would be in Arafat at that time." I reached there, but when I wanted to come before him, I was told, "Move away from the path of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." But he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Call this man, his limbs may become useless, what is the matter with him?" So I pushed forward and reached the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and held the reins of his mount and said: "I will ask about two things: which deed will save me from the Fire, and which deed will admit me to Paradise?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, looked towards the sky and then lowered his head. After that, he, peace and blessings be upon him, turned his face towards me and said: "You have asked a very concise question, but in reality, it is a great and lengthy matter. Nevertheless, now understand my words: You must worship Allah Almighty, associate nothing with Him, perform the obligatory prayers, give the obligatory zakat, fast in Ramadan, and whatever you like for yourself from people, choose the same for them, and whatever you dislike from people, keep them safe from that as well." Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Now move away from the path of the mount."
