Narrated by Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) married me, I was six years old; in another narration, seven years is mentioned. This marriage took place in Mecca at the time of the death of Sayyida Khadija (may Allah be pleased with her), and when I was sent to live with him, I was nine years old; this consummation took place in Madinah Munawwarah.
Benefits: … At the time of marriage, the age of Sayyidah (Aisha) was six years and a few months; therefore, sometimes this fraction is rounded up and it is said to be seven years, and sometimes it is left as six years. In 2 AH, Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha’s marriage was consummated.
One year before the Hijrah, Sayyidah Khadijah radi Allahu anha passed away.
The summary of this chapter is that whether a woman is a virgin, divorced, or widowed, the consent of her guardian (wali) is necessary for the validity of her marriage, as has already been clarified in the previous chapter. However, a widow and a divorced woman certainly have the right to express their opinion, and the guardian should take their opinion into consideration.
