Hadith 6865

عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَخْطُبَ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى خِطْبَةِ أَخِيهِ حَتَّى يَدَعَهَا الَّذِي خَطَبَهَا أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ أَوْ يَأْذَنَ لَهُ.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a man should send a proposal of engagement over the engagement of his brother, except if the first proposer leaves the woman or gives permission to the other.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … When a woman inclines towards a man and both are mutually agreeable to marriage, with only the formal contract (nikah) remaining, then it is not permissible for another person to entice that woman towards himself by offering a higher dowry (mahr), or by displaying his wealth or beauty.
