Hadith 6863

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a marriage proposal to a woman from his people named Saudah. She had children; from her deceased husband, she had five or six children, so she refused. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What is the obstacle to marrying me? She said: By Allah! O Messenger of Allah! There is no obstacle; you are the most beloved to me on the face of the earth, but I consider you greater and more honorable than for these children to be crying and wailing at your bedside morning and evening. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Is there anything else that is an obstacle? She said: No, by Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: May Allah have mercy on you. The best women who ride camels are the righteous women of Quraysh, who show the most compassion to small children and are the best at safeguarding their husband's wealth.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … It is understood that being compassionate towards children and safeguarding the husband’s wealth are among the major qualities of a woman.

It is possible that this woman named Sawdah is actually Umm Hani, who was mentioned in the previous hadith; perhaps her title was Sawdah, because it is well known that her name was Fakhitah. However, there is also the possibility that this is another woman.

In any case, keep in mind that this is not the same Sawdah who was the wife of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. She was Sayyidah Sawdah bint Zam‘ah radi Allahu anha, and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam married her after the death of Sayyidah Khadijah radi Allahu anha. When the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam passed away, she was still alive.
