عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرْسَلَ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ تَنْظُرُ إِلَى جَارِيَةٍ فَقَالَ شُمِّي عَوَارِضَهَا وَانْظُرِي إِلَى عُرْقُوبِهَا
Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyida Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) to look at a girl and said: Smell the side teeth of this girl and look at the muscle above her heel.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this muscle, one can estimate whether the body is thick or thin and slender; if this muscle is clearly visible, then the rest of the body is thin, and if it is not clearly visible, then the body is thick.
In the narrations of Imam Hakim and Imam Bayhaqi, this detail is mentioned: When Sayyidah Umm Sulaym radi Allahu anha went to her, she said: O Umm so-and-so! Shall we offer you food? She replied: But I will not eat until such-and-such girl serves the food. So, that girl climbed towards a cornice, and there Sayyidah Umm Sulaym radi Allahu anha saw her muscle. Then she said to her: Daughter! Remove my lice. So, she began to remove the lice, and she (Umm Sulaym) started smelling her teeth. Then she returned and related the details to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
