Hadith 6817

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Hakam Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): What is your opinion about those matters which we used to do in the days of ignorance, for example, we used to take omens? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is a thing which you may feel in your heart, but it should not prevent you from your work. He said: O Messenger of Allah! We also used to go to soothsayers. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not go to soothsayers.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Dislike for something can arise in a person’s heart, but this should not affect his resolve in any way. For example, a person intends to travel early in the morning, but at that very moment an owl or a crow appears before him, or he suffers some loss. In such a case, the thought may occur to him that he should not travel, but in practice, he should not act upon this thought; rather, he should place his trust in Allah Ta‘ala and proceed with the journey.
