It is narrated from the wife of the Prophet, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), that people asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) about soothsayers. He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to them: They have no reality. They said: O Messenger of Allah! Sometimes they say something that turns out to be true. He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: That is a true word which a jinn snatches, then he cackles it into the ear of his friend like a hen does, and they mix a hundred lies with it.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Further clarification of this issue is as follows:
This is the order and management of Allah Ta’ala, in accordance with His wisdom and knowledge, that when He speaks words containing revelation (wahy), the angels fall unconscious. Then the bearers of the Throne and Jibreel Amin (Gabriel, alayhis salam) inform them about the revelation. When these same angels discuss the revelation in the lowest heaven, the devils (shayatin) overhear their conversation. This matter is further clarified in the narration of Sayyidah A’ishah radi Allahu anha, who says that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Indeed, the angels descend in the clouds—which are the clouds—and mention the matter that has been decreed in the heaven. The devils eavesdrop and hear it, then they convey it to the soothsayers (kahin), and they mix with it a hundred lies from themselves.” (Bukhari: 3210) … “When the angels descend to the lowest heaven and mention the decisions made in the heaven, the devils steal their words, then convey them to the soothsayers (and astrologers), and mix with it a hundred lies from themselves.”
Some aspects of Allah Ta’ala’s management and administration are a trial for human beings, and this is one of them. Just as Allah Ta’ala has arranged for the protection of revelation through shooting stars (shihab thaqib), it was possible that He would not allow these jinn to ascend towards the heavens at all, but this is Allah Ta’ala’s wisdom and a trial for the children of Adam, especially for those people who go to astrologers and soothsayers and try to corrupt their beliefs. Allah Ta’ala has made it clear that out of a hundred and one claims of astrologers, one may be true, due to which the conviction of their followers increases.
Respected readers! If astrologers and soothsayers claim to predict the future of people, then why do they not sit at places like airports, stations, and bus terminals and stop those airplanes, trains, and buses that are about to have accidents? The astrologer who, in his own estimation, can calculate where a certain person’s son is after going missing, why does he remain heedless about that airplane or train which, after a short while, is about to throw hundreds of people into the pit of death? Many times, due to lack of rain or excessive rain, farmers suffer losses of billions in their crops—why do these people even let the farmers sow their crops?
A friend of ours, a father of two children, went to an astrologer to test him and said: “Sir! I am not getting married. I have tried various means, but have failed. Now only you can, by your calculations, clarify my situation for me and help me in getting married.” The astrologer began to try his luck through various tricks, supplications (wazifah), and amulets (ta’wiz), and started giving different suggestions for success in this purpose. Meanwhile, my friend jumped up, came out of his room, and addressing him said: “Allah Ta’ala has already given me two children from one wife. You do not even know about my past, so how will you decide about my future?”
Similarly, an astrologer went to the police to complain about the theft of his property and requested their help. By Allah’s will, the police officers were people of correct beliefs. They said: “Sir! Regarding the thefts of others, you investigate thoroughly and reach the culprit, but in your own theft, you can do nothing?”
What further facts are there cannot be recorded at this place; they can certainly be explained verbally. However, it is requested from those who believe in soothsayers that they should test them once or twice by telling them a fabricated story. InshaAllah, they will not dare to go a third time, because all the matters will become clear to them.
