عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا تَجْلِدُوا فَوْقَ عَشَرَةِ أَسْوَاطٍ إِلَّا فِي حَدٍّ مِنْ حُدُودِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
(Second chain) The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not flog with more than ten lashes, except in one of the limits set by Allah the Exalted.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … In Islamic Shari‘ah, the limits (hudud) and their punishments have been determined. Ta‘zir refers to the punishment for an offense that is less than an offense warranting a prescribed legal punishment (hadd). Regarding this, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has decreed that ta‘zir should not exceed ten lashes.
