Hadith 6781

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) that Nu’aiman or Ibn Nu’aiman was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was intoxicated. This matter was burdensome for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). In another narration, it is stated: This situation caused great distress to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered those present in the house to beat him. Sayyiduna Uqbah says: I was also among those who beat him. We beat him with our hands and with palm branches.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Nu’ayman radi Allahu anhu was among the earliest champions of Islam. He participated in the Pledge of Aqabah, the Battle of Badr, and many other campaigns. He was a cheerful person, and the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would smile at his cheerfulness. Such great individuals should have remained distant from alcohol; for this reason, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam felt even more sorrow and grief.

At this point, although there is some doubt as to whether Nu’ayman or the son of Nu’ayman was brought to the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, in Sahih Bukhari, Book of Agency (Kitab al-Wakalah), it is stated without any doubt that Nu’ayman was brought. Furthermore, it is also mentioned there that the one who brought him was the narrator of the hadith himself, ‘Uqbah ibn Harith. (Abdullah Rafiq)
