(Some other chain) Some people from Kufa came to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and informed him about Walid drinking alcohol. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) on this matter. He said: You yourself seize your cousin and carry out the prescribed punishment on him. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Hasan! Stand up and lash him. He said: What concern do you have with this matter? Assign this matter to someone else. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Rather, you have become weak and cowardly... Then a narration similar to the first narration was mentioned.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu referred to Walid as the cousin of Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu because Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu was from the descendants of Hashim, and Walid was from the descendants of Abd Shams. In this regard, if traced upwards, they are established as cousins, as Hashim and Abd Shams were both sons of Abd Manaf.
In one narration of Sunan Abu Dawud (4489), it is mentioned: When Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu became the caliph, Sayyiduna Khalid ibn Walid radi Allahu anhu wrote a letter to him: "People have started drinking a lot of alcohol, and they consider the current prescribed punishment and penalty to be insignificant." Thus, Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu consulted the earliest emigrants (muhajirun), and all of them agreed that now eighty (80) lashes should be administered. Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu said: "When a man drinks alcohol, he fabricates slanders and accusations, so my opinion is that he should be given the punishment for slander (qadhf)." (Abu Dawud: 4489)
In Sunan Abu Dawud (4488), it is stated: A drunkard was brought to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam while you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam were in Hunayn. You sallallahu alayhi wa sallam threw dust on his face and ordered the companions to beat him. So they beat him with their sandals and whatever was in their hands, until you sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "Now stop." So they stopped. This practice continued until the death of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu administered forty lashes due to alcohol. Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu, in the early days of his caliphate, also administered forty, and then started eighty (80) lashes. Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu, during his caliphate, continued both punishments (40 and 80), and Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah radi Allahu anhu enforced the punishment of eighty (80) lashes.
