Brief Explanation
Benefits: … If “al-baydah” means “egg,” then the mention of the egg and the rope in the statement is for emphasis, meaning that a person can be deprived of his hand even in exchange for something trivial, and he also becomes a symbol of disgrace in general society, except for whom my Lord has mercy.
The evil and reprehensibility of the thief and theft are being described. For what amount of theft will the hand be cut off? Its clarification is coming in the following ahadith.
Being distant from the mercy of Allah Ta’ala is called “la’nah” (curse). It is permissible to invoke la’nah upon unspecified sinners, because this is a curse upon a category, not upon a specific individual, as in the statement of Allah Ta’ala: {الا لعنۃ اللہ علی الظالمین} … “Beware! The curse of Allah Ta’ala is upon the wrongdoers.” Similarly, it is permissible to curse those people about whom, due to the confirmation of the noble Prophets, it is certain that they are inhabitants of Hell, such as Abu Jahl, Abu Lahab, Pharaoh, and others.
As for those ahadith in which cursing is prohibited, what is meant is that la’nah should not be invoked upon a specific individual.
