عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: لَمَّا نَزَلَ عُذْرِي قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ وَتَلَا الْقُرْآنَ فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ أَمَرَ بِرَجُلَيْنِ وَامْرَأَةٍ فَضُرِبُوا حَدَّهُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: When my innocence was revealed, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit, mentioned the matter, then recited the relevant verses of the Holy Qur'an, then when he descended from the pulpit, he ordered that the punishment be carried out on two men and one woman, so the punishment was carried out on them.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This is a lengthy incident; its account is present in twelve or thirteen verses of Surah An-Nur. This event indicates the honor and greatness of Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha. The three individuals who were flogged as punishment for the accusation were Muslims. Their names are: Sayyiduna Mistah, Sayyiduna Hassan bin Thabit, and Sayyidah Hamnah bint Jahsh radi Allahu anhum. Imam Hakim has narrated in "Al-Iklil" a narration from which it is understood that among those upon whom the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam carried out the punishment for the accusation was also the chief of the hypocrites, Abdullah bin Ubayy.
