Hadith 6743

It is narrated from Abu Abdur Rahman Salmi, he says: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed and said: O people! Establish the prescribed punishments on your slave women and slaves, whether they are married or unmarried, because a slave woman of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) committed adultery, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me to establish the prescribed punishment on her. But when I went to her, I found her in such a state that her postnatal bleeding had just started, so I feared that if I flogged her, she might die. So I presented myself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of these details. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You did well.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this hadith, it is understood that in the matter of the hadd (prescribed punishment) for adultery (zina), there is no difference between a male or female slave being married or unmarried; rather, in both cases, fifty lashes will be administered.

In cases of illness or similar circumstances, the punishment of lashes can be postponed, so that the offender does not suffer any additional harm. This same issue was explained in the commentary of hadith number (6721).
