It is narrated from Shaibani, he says: I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him): Did the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ever carry out stoning (rajm)? He said: Yes, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stoned a Jewish man and a Jewish woman. I asked: Was it before or after the revelation of Surah An-Nur? He replied: I do not know about that.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The question regarding the revelation of Surah An-Nur referred to this verse: { اَلزَّانِیَۃُوَالزَّانِیْفَاجْلِدُوْاکُلَّوَاحِدٍمِّنْھُمَامِائَۃَجَلْدَۃٍ} … “The fornicating man and the fornicating woman, flog each of them with a hundred lashes.” (Surah An-Nur: 2) Detailed narrations related to this subject are also present in Sunan Abi Dawud. From the context of all these narrations, it becomes clear that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam made a judgment among those Jews in light of the Torah, not because it was an Islamic ruling.
