Narrated from Sayyiduna Saeed bin Saad bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: In our neighborhood there lived a physically deformed man. The household was greatly astonished to see that he was committing adultery with a slave girl of the neighborhood, while he was a Muslim. Sayyiduna Saad (may Allah be pleased with him) brought his case to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Administer the hadd (punishment) to him. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! He is not able to bear the hadd; if we flog him a hundred lashes, he will die. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then take a branch with a hundred twigs and strike him once with it, and then let him go.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … From this it is established that if a sick person cannot bear the original prescribed punishment, then he can be released after being punished in this manner. However, this is an exceptional case regarding that punishment which is less than death, such as flogging the unmarried adulterer. If the punishment itself is death, then the full prescribed punishment will be carried out.
