Hadith 6663

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah Bajali, may Allah be pleased with him, that I asked the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about the sudden glance. He, peace and blessings be upon him, instructed me to turn my gaze away.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The command of Allah, the Exalted, is: {قُلْ لِلْمُوْمِنِیْنَیَغُضُّوْا مِنْ اَبْصَارِھِمْ وَیَحْفَظُوْا فُرُوْجَھُمْ ذٰلِکَ اَزْکٰی لَھُمْ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ خَبِیْرٌ بِمَا یَصْنَعُوْنَ۔ وَقُلْ لِّلْمُؤْمِنٰتِ یَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ اَبْصَارِھِنَّ وَیَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوْجَھُنَّ} … (An-Nur: 30, 31) “Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts; that is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is well aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity.” The first command is that both men and women should lower their gaze. However, if—God forbid—the gaze happens to fall upon something which the Shari‘ah has prohibited from being seen, then one should immediately avert the gaze. By immediately turning the gaze away, either the effects of desire do not arise at all, or they are quickly diminished.
