Narrated by Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The child of adultery is the worst among the three when he does the same act as his parents.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Imam Sufyan says: … اِذَا عَمِلَ بِعَمِلِ اَبَوَیْہِ. … This hadith will be interpreted according to its meaning when the son also performs the same action as his parents. This statement is supported by the following marfu‘ narration:

Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((وَلَدُ الزِّنَا شَرُّ الثَّـلَاثَۃِ اِذَا عَمِلَ بِعَمَلِ اَبَوَیْہِ.)) … “The child of adultery is the worst of the three, when he also begins to do the same deed as his parents.” In its chain of narration, Muhammad ibn Abdur Rahman ibn Abi Layla is weak due to poor memory.

Imam al-Albani has also preferred this meaning. (Sahihah: 672)

But in reality, the child born as a result of adultery is free from the actions of his parents.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((لَیْسَ عَلٰی وَلَدِ الْزِّنَا مِن وِزْرِ أَبَوَیْہِ شَیْئٌ {وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَۃٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرٰی}.)) [فاطر:۱۸] (Sahihah: 2186) “There is no burden of the parents’ sin upon the child of adultery, as Allah the Exalted has said: ‘(And on the Day of Resurrection) no bearer of burden will bear the burden of another.’”

Adultery (zina) is a grave crime, but the child born as a result is innocent; such children should never be reproached for the actions of their parents.
