عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا تَزَالُ أُمَّتِي بِخَيْرٍ مَا لَمْ يَفْشُ فِيهِمْ وَلَدُ الزِّنَا فَإِذَا فَشَا فِيهِمْ وَلَدُ الزِّنَا فَيُوشِكُ أَنْ يَعُمَّهُمُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِعِقَابٍ
Narrated by Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her): The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: My Ummah will remain upon goodness as long as illegitimate children do not become numerous among them. When illegitimate children become numerous among them, it will be near that Allah Almighty will inflict a general punishment upon them.
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The abundance of children born out of wedlock means that fornication (zina) becomes widespread, resulting in illegitimate children being born and the system of lineage and ancestry being corrupted.
Although people of the present era possess many and grave faults, yet the shamelessness that has spread due to fornication (zina) and related sins—because of the means of planning and the electronic, social, and print media—has no parallel in the past. Due to honor and dignity, it was unimaginable to even think of such evil regarding certain individuals and families, but now the elders of those very families have become entangled in the mire of fornication (zina), and their wives and daughters have kept bulls on hire for themselves. The eyes of people in such families, who are fifty or sixty years old and should have been embodiments of modesty and shame, are now seen gazing stealthily and staring fixedly at such unveiled girls who are the age of their own daughters or even younger. (Allah’s refuge) Can anyone, even in their sixth sense, imagine that mothers would make deals to have their daughters’ honor plundered? Does anyone have the courage to bear that daughters, standing naked before their fathers who impose restrictions, would say: “Then you yourself fulfill our needs, otherwise let us go out”? Is there room in anyone’s mind to accept that husbands go abroad to earn a living, and their wives, spending their very earnings, keep bulls on hire for themselves? Yet this is happening, and it is happening in every city of every country.
O people! Come, let us hold fast to the pure Shariah; therein lies the defense of our honor, and this alone is the other name for a life of dignity and honor.
