Narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) that Ya'la bin Munyah or Ibn Umayyah had a fight with a man. One of them bit the other's hand, and to save himself, he pulled his hand away, causing one or two teeth of the biter to fall out. When both of them brought their dispute to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Does one of you bite his brother like a bull? There is no blood money for such a person." In another narration, it is stated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) invalidated his blood money and said: "Did you want to chew your brother's flesh like a bull?"

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … If a person is attacked, he has the right to defend himself. If, during the course of defensive action, the attacker suffers any harm—even to the extent that he dies—then there will be no retribution (qisas), blood money (diyah), compensation, or indemnity. However, if the one defending himself undertakes any aggressive action, then he will be held responsible. The court will decide whether a particular action by a person was aggressive or defensive. According to these ahadith, if a man starts biting another’s fingers, the only thing the victim can do in self-defense is to pull his hand out of the attacker’s mouth. But if the attacker is holding the fingers so tightly that even his own teeth come out as a result, then the one acting in self-defense is not responsible.
