Abu Safar says: A man from the Quraysh broke the tooth of an Ansari man. The Ansari went to seek justice from Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). The Ansari said: He has broken my tooth. Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Surely, we will satisfy you. When the Ansari insisted on taking retribution, Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Your matter is in the hands of your companion. Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting nearby; he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever among the Muslims forgives a wound inflicted upon his body, Allah Almighty raises his rank and erases his sin. The Ansari said: Did you hear this hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes! My ears heard it and my heart remembered it. So the Ansari forgave the Qurayshi.
